SIZE: About 190 square miles
The main park entrance is located about 22 miles north of the city of Liberia. The park is part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area World Heritage site that was originally created to protect the scene of the Battle of Santa Rosa, but today also protects the areas natural environment. One of the original Santa Rosa Farm buildings has been preserved as a monument commemorating the fallen heros of several battles in the vicinity of the park. Santa Rosa National Park is adjacent to Guanacaste National Park.

Tenorio Volcano National Park
CONSERVATION AREA: Arnal Tilaran Conservation Area
PROVINCE: Guanacaste Province
LOCATION: About 26 miles northeast of La Fortuna Town
Park surrounding a volcano with four volcanic peaks and two craters. One of the craters is also known as the Montezuma Volcano. Attractions include the Rio Celeste (light blue river), small geysers, thermal springs, rivers, waterfalls, and lagoons. The the volano's summit can be reached by hiking the Lago Las Dantas Trail. A ranger station at the base of the volcano has visitor information.

Turrialba Volcano National Park

SPANISH NAME: Parque Nacional Volcan Turrialba
PROVINCE: Cartago Province
LOCATION: Southeast Costa Rica, about 40 miles east of San Jose City
Park surrounding the Turrialba Volcano, an active volcano with three craters that last had a major erruptionin the mid 1800's. The Turrialba Volcano's scenic outlook can be reached by walking on a marked trail from the park's cafe. More recent activity includes sulfuric steam and gas emissions.
