Historic Roller Rinks of Tennessee

Information about historic roller rinks in Tennessee that are now closed. Includes three former Memphis roller rinks: Skateland Summer on Old Summer Road and the Rainbow Rollerdrome, which was part of the Rainbow Swimming and Skating Complex.

Rainbow Rollerdrome (1942-1958)
Article with information about the Rainbow Rollerdrome, a roller skating rink that opened at the Rainbow Lake Complex on Lamar Avenue in Memphis Tennessee in 1942, closed in 1958, and was later torn down to make way for a grocery store and an apartment complex.

Skate City Kingsport (1973-2008)
History of the Skate City Kingsport roller skating rink on Bridgewater lane in Kingsport that opened in 1973 as Skate Inn Kingsport. During its more then 35 years of operation it had two owners and four rink operators. The rink was closed and sold to a fitness center developer in 2008.

SkateLand Summer (1955-2006)
Information about the SkateLand summer roller skating rink that opened on Old Summer Road in Memphis in 1955, moved across the street in 1963, and closed in 2006 after its roof was destroyed by a fire.

Skatin' Jakes
When this roller skating rink was badly burned in 2000 the rink's owner was charged with arson but later was found innocent and aquitted of all charges.
